Human Resources

Professional Development Fellows Program

The Office of Human Resources in collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, invites you to apply to the Adelphi Professional Development Fellows Program (PDFP).

The PDFP is designed to prepare union and entry-level non-union employees with the tools, knowledge and experience to accelerate their career growth in higher education. The goal of the PDFP is to provide staff members considering a role as an administrator or supervisor with learning opportunities, experience, knowledge and skills related to success in administrative positions in higher education.

The PDFP is a selective program where candidates will demonstrate their interest by submitting an online application form and short essay providing a rationale and explaining their interest in the program.

The PDFP is an intensive yearlong learning experience, which begins in Fall 2019. Here is the plan:

  • In Fall 2019, fellows will attend an orientation workshop and complete the required online technology learning.
  • In Spring 2020, fellows will attend selected workshops in the Adelphi University Diversity Certificate Program and the Leadership and Management Certificate Program.
  • In Summer 2020, fellows will learn through a project-oriented experience (4 hours per week) in one of several selected departments within the University setting.
  • At the conclusion of the program, the participant will prepare a self-assessment of the experience and participate in an “exit” interview with the host supervisor/manager.

Career Advancement

Near the end of the program, fellows will receive career counseling which will include instruction around resume development, interview skills, and job search techniques.
